The Hawkdun Ranges are a landscape I've returned to many times throughout my painting practice. There's something about them that continues to draw me back. In this particular work, I wanted to capture the essence of a crisp, sunny Central Otago winter's day and transport the viewer right into the scene. Under a blue, cloudless sky, the snow-covered Hawkduns glow in the winter sunshine. In the foreground sits an old corrugated iron fishing hut, weathered by years of Central Otago seasons. Together, these elements create a landscape that feels quintessentially Central Otago - beautiful, still, and remote.
